For Felicia Lee, yoga began as a complement to weight training more than a decade ago. "I used to lift weights a lot, and I believe that your strength is only as useful as your mobility," she explains. "You've got to have that range of motion tied into it."

What started as a recovery practice soon evolved into something much more meaningful. "It went from that to a moving meditation, using the breathwork to clear out my thoughts or any stagnant energy or emotions I had been holding onto," Felicia shares. Through YouTube videos and online platforms, she developed a consistent home practice that would eventually lead her to teaching.

Finding Her Path

After years in unfulfilling jobs, Felicia knew she needed a change. "I was tired of being drained. I was working as a receptionist with some not-so-ideal leadership, and I wasn't making a difference," she recalls. "I needed something where I could constantly move up, with room for growth to thrive. I needed to help others thrive for that puzzle piece to fit."

That's when she discovered ISSA's 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training program. As a parent with a busy schedule, Felicia appreciated the program's flexibility. "It suited my lifestyle to go at my own pace, to be able to leave it when I'm really busy and then immerse myself when I had the extra time."

The ISSA Difference

The ISSA program helped Felicia enhance her teaching abilities in unexpected ways. "My skills from taking the course had grown exponentially because there were things I could go back to and read and watch," she explains. "My client retention for my classes has grown because the ISSA yoga 200-hour certification is approved by the Yoga Alliance."

The program's comprehensive approach to anatomy and technical aspects of yoga particularly resonated with Felicia. These elements have helped her provide more value to her students, who now report feeling stronger through her guidance. "I teach them to actively engage their muscles while opening, without just using their hands," she explains, highlighting how her enhanced knowledge helps her create more effective classes.

Making an Impact

Today, Felicia teaches multiple classes per week and offers private sessions, working with students from all walks of life. One of her most rewarding experiences has been working with an older gentleman with Parkinson's disease. "After just the second one-on-one session, he said that he now sees the value of training and how yoga has really helped him increase his mobility," she shares proudly.

Felicia continues to expand her knowledge through additional ISSA courses, focusing next on exercise recovery and corrective exercise. Her ultimate goal? Opening her own wellness center where she can have an even bigger impact on her community.

When asked what advice she'd give to those considering the ISSA 200-hour yoga program, Felicia doesn't hesitate: "Take it. What do they have to lose? It's knowledge. Whether they choose to make a career out of it or not, it still helps them understand their own body and how it works."
